Coaches Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy
I will, at all times conduct myself in a manner that serves as a positive role model and representative of Grand Valley Lacrosse.
I will treat each coach, player, official, parent and Grand Valley Lacrosse staff member with respect and dignity. I will require this of my team’s players and parents as well.
I will never physically, verbally or emotionally harm, hurt, humiliate or intimidate another participant, coach, parent, official or Grand Valley Lacrosse staff member.
I will learn the strengths and weaknesses of my players and place them in situations in which they will have fun and learn the fundamentals of the sport that I am coaching. My emphasis will be on fun, participation and skill development of each player.
I understand that smoking and the use of tobacco or alcohol during league sponsored practices, games, or while volunteering is prohibited.
I will never use profanity or language that is in bad taste. I will not allow my players or parents to use profanity or language that is in bad taste.
I will ensure that I am knowledgeable in the rules of lacrosse and will teach these rules to my players.
I will remember that I am a youth coach, and that the game is for the players – not for the adults.
I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my players ahead of any personal desire to win.
I will respect all facilities, fields and equipment.
I will complete all required concussion awareness training/documentation and be on the lookout for signs and symptoms while children are under my supervision.
I will report to the Grand Valley Lacrosse Board of Directors any situation that I observe that is detrimental to the goals set forth in this policy.
The board of directors will review all infractions of the Code of Conduct. Depending on the seriousness or frequency, the board may assess additional disciplinary action up to and including expulsion from the league.
This Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy will be reviewed on an annual basis.
